Non-surgical treatment for spider veins
Board-certified dermatologists Dr. Greg Van Dyke and Dr. Jasmine Yun offer a minimally invasive outpatient treatment called sclerotherapy to minimize or remove visible spider veins on the body. With sclerotherapy, the spider veins are injected with a solution that causes them to collapse, and disappear within 1-2 months.
"This is more of a THANK YOU than a simple review.Having suffered with cystic acne beginning in my teens and after years of treatmeants there has never before been such a thoughtful and knowledgeable Doctor that I’ve truly intrusted and valued.Dr Van Dyke’s skills, expertise and great sense of humor was a welcomed relief and very much appreciated. Finally, feeling like I had landed in the right hands at the right time.To the staff at the front desk, I extend my gratititude to you as well. It was and has been nothing but a pleasure. The results of my treatments surpassed my expectations and would highly recommend Dr Van Dyke to anyone who is suffering from skin conditions beyond their control or wanting a refresh/enhancement. THANK YOU again, for the care and patience you extended to me regarding such a sensitive topic, my appearance. And for that you are deserving of a 10 Star rating !"- A.S. / Yelp / Mar 13, 2023
"I don’t really ever go to the dermatologist (knock on wood) but I had to recently and gave this office a chance and the experience was soooooo wonderful. The front desk assistant was amazingly nice. The process was fast, nobody wasted my time. I saw PA Charlotte and she gave me a few options for what to do with the issue I had and I appreciate that!!! She took my concerns seriously. Last dermatologist I saw was in Encino and she was critical and had a bad bedside manners. This place felt cozy, cute and inviting."- C.K. / Yelp / Feb 02, 2023
"I was referred to Dr Yun when her office was near Woodland Hills several years ago. I travel from Ojai to Studio City to maintain my relationship with Dr Yun now as I find her to be the kindest, most talented dermatologist I’ve been lucky enough to find. I’m 63, I’ve had a few! She is patient and kind from skin cancer to micro needling, never upselling, yet keeping me informed always of new products. The staff is very efficient and courteous and runs the office impeccably. I can’t imagine being in anyone else’s hands for my dermatology needs. Do not hesitate to see Dr Yun. Seriously!"- L.M. / Google / Jan 18, 2023

"I recently received IPL treatment (three sessions) from Dr. Van Dyke and was delighted with the results! My dark spots have visibly lightened and my skin tone is definitely brighter and more even. I will absolutely come back for any future dermatological needs. Dr. Van Dyke is both personable and knowledgeable - and his front office is courteous and efficient. Thank you, Dr. Van Dyke, for an excellent client experience!"- M.F. / Yelp / Oct 30, 2022
What are spider veins and what causes them?
Spider veins can be an unsightly addition to the skin and cause embarrassment or self-consciousness. They are most prominent on the legs, so those with them often avoid wearing swimsuits, dresses, or shorts. These veins, called telangiectasia, are typically created by genetics, hormonal changes, obesity, sitting, standing, and childbearing, blood clots, and certain medications and medical conditions.
Usually blue, purple, or red, spider veins can be easily seen underneath the skin as they grow in branching patterns on the legs and face.
What can I expect at my sclerotherapy appointment?
If you are bothered by spider veins and are in good overall health, are not pregnant, or have a history of blood clots, you may be a good candidate for sclerotherapy at Van Dyke Yun Dermatology. After a consultation with Dr. Van Dyke or Dr. Yun, we will perform your sclerotherapy in a private treatment room quickly and without need of anesthesia.
Once the blood vessels being corrected are determined and the overlying skin has been sanitized, a fine needle will be inserted into the vein and the sclerosing solution can be introduced. The needle will be removed, and the injection site will be covered with gauze to treat any bleeding. We will repeat the process until all spider veins have been treated.
Once treatment is complete, you can leave our office to resume your daily routine. You may have mild swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated areas, but this will usually fade naturally. Compression garments will be suggested to help blood circulation after your sclerotherapy treatment for better, faster results. The treated blood vessels should shrink, turn white, and then disappear or fade. If more than one session is needed, we can help you schedule your appointment.
If you’re ready to get started, or to learn more about sclerotherapy, please call us at 818.900.6007 to schedule a consultation. We will analyze your skin, discuss your goals, and create a treatment plan customized just for you. We look forward to seeing you in the office!
