The next generation of fractional skin resurfacing
Van Dyke Yun Dermatology is excited to offer Opus Plasma, an FDA-cleared, cutting-edge skin resurfacing technology that combines radiofrequency (RF) with plasma. Surpassing the capabilities of the fractional resurfacing lasers of the past, Opus allows for superior customization, permitting our technicians to tailor results to your needs and aesthetic goals.
Reviews
How does Opus Plasma work?
Opus uses radiofrequency-charged metal pins to create fractional injuries to specific areas of the skin. When the device approaches the targeted area, a surge of plasma (an ionized gas) is created, delivering heat to ablate the skin. This combination jumpstarts a wound-healing response, which in turn stimulates regeneration of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. In addition, plasma neutralizes free radicals and rids the skin of bacteria. Since only tiny channels of the skin are treated, it is safer and more effective—takes only 15-30 minutes and results in far less downtime—than other skin resurfacing laser treatments.
Is Opus similar to laser skin resurfacing?
Yes and no! Opus is an RF + microplasma procedure that gently creates microinjuries similar to microneedling while emitting unipolar radiofrequency energy. The technology is so fine-tuned that it can replicate the results of a gentle chemical peel or the intensity of an aggressive CO2 resurfacing procedure, depending on the patient’s needs.
Will there be a long recovery period after treatment?
Because Opus is so customizable, downtime will depend on the level of treatment provided. Typically, our patients are fine to resume normal activities within a day. After effects can include swelling, redness, and tight/dry skin. More aggressive treatment can result in up to a week of recovery, but our patients agree it’s well worth it.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you’ll need depends on the condition of your skin as well as your desired results. During your consultation, we will create a treatment plan specifically tailored to your needs. Patients can attain impressive results with just one Opus Plasma session and continue to improve with subsequent treatments.
What types of results will I see?
Opus is primarily used for skin tightening and skin resurfacing. Depending on your individual needs and your specific treatment plan, results can include firmer, more youthful looking/feeling skin, a clearer and more radiant complexion, and a more rested overall appearance.
What can I expect on my treatment day?
On the night before and day of your Opus, please hydrate! Drinking lots of water beforehand will aid in the treatment as well as your recovery. In the exam room, we will wash and apply numbing cream to the skin. Once the anesthetic kicks in, we will begin the Opus procedure, which is remarkably quick—around 15-20 minutes! You’re likely to experience sensations of heat, pressure, with mild discomfort but usually well tolerated with anesthetic. We will apply sunscreen before you leave, but strict sun avoidance is required in the following weeks. Our team will advise you on any specific aftercare procedures, but you’ll want to stay well hydrated and keep the treated skin moist in the days to follow.
What areas can be treated with Opus skin resurfacing?
The most common areas we treat are the face, neck, and décolletage (chest), but we can also use Opus all over the body, including arms, abdomen, and legs, as well as acne scars on the back. On the face, we can treat the forehead, eye area, cheeks, nose, lips, and jawline.
Who is a good candidate for Opus Plasma?
Opus is ideal for those with fine lines and wrinkles, loose or lax skin, enlarged pores, broken blood vessels, acne scarring, stretchmarks, dullness, brown spots, and uneven skin tone and texture. We’re thrilled to report that Opus is the first fractional skin resurfacing treatment that can successfully treat darker skin types.
