What is Acne and Rosacea?
Acne and rosacea are two of the more common skin conditions in the United States. While acne occurs most commonly in teens and young adults, rosacea is most common among middle-aged women with fair skin. Both are sometimes linked to genetics, and those with rosacea are more susceptible to having acne. Acne is most commonly a mixture of pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, and other red and swollen areas of the skin. Rosacea is most commonly known as a red face but can also occur with red, swollen bumps on the skin similar to acne. Those with rosacea also tend to have issues with their eyes, including dryness and irritation and red, swollen eyelids. Both of these conditions can be managed with the help of Studio City, CA board-certified dermatologists Dr. Greg Van Dyke and Dr. Jasmine Yun. At Van Dyke Yun Dermatology, so our team can help you treat and manage your acne or rosacea, as well as minimize acne scarring for a face that is as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside.

What Causes Acne and Rosacea and How is It Treated?
Acne flare-ups are most commonly attributed to hormonal changes, such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Certain medications, like birth control, as well as a poor diet and anxiety, can lead to acne. Acne scars can become present for those who've had (or have) severe acne. Typically, these scars look bumpy and dented and give off an irregular appearance, even after the acne has faded. Genetics, lack of treatment, and picking or touching your acne can all lead to scars. Similarly to acne, a combination of environmental and genetic factors are likely what causes rosacea. Spicy foods, alcohol, hot drinks, sun exposure, hot temperatures, anxiety and embarrassment, overexertion, and certain medications are all things that can lead to a rosacea flare-up.
At Van Dyke Yun Dermatology, we can help you treat and manage your acne and rosacea by diagnosing the exact cause of your skin condition. Knowing what causes your skin condition can help us decide how to treat your condition. Some options we may consider are a prescription topical cream, antibiotics, laser treatment using the Alma Opus Plasma™, or something else. In some cases, a combination of treatments may be used. We offer a wide range of treatments at our Studio City, CA office to help smooth and even out the color of your complexion due to acne scarring. Call our office for more information.
